Breece Hall Exits Jets Practice with Groin Strain

Breece Hall sustained a groin strain during Jets practice on Monday, August 17th — a soft-tissue injury to the adductor muscle group that warrants close monitoring heading into the preseason stretch. The grade is inferred, not confirmed by imaging or clinical examination; the team has not disclosed severity, so OTM is working from the reported mechanism and language.

Groin and adductor strains sit in the muscle/myotendinous tissue category. A Grade 1 presentation — the most consistent with "day-to-day" preseason practice language — carries a biological healing floor of roughly 1–2 weeks. A Grade 2, which involves partial disruption of the adductor fibers and is the real risk to watch here, pushes that window to 3–6 weeks. That's the range that would actually threaten Hall's Week 1 availability.

The timing matters. With the regular season opening in mid-September, Hall is sitting on roughly 3–4 weeks of buffer even if this trends toward the moderate end of the spectrum. A clean Grade 1 resolution keeps him in the lineup for Week 1 with room to spare. A Grade 2 confirmed by imaging compresses that buffer significantly and would put his season opener status in genuine question.

Hall's history is worth noting — he's coming off a torn ACL sustained in 2022, which tells you nothing about groin injury risk directly, but does reinforce why the Jets will be conservative with him in camp. Skill positions like RB carry outsized functional sensitivity to adductor health: cutting, acceleration, and change-of-direction are all adductor-loaded movements. Even sub-clinical adductor pain at 95% health is functionally meaningful for a player whose entire game runs through explosive lateral movement.

The watch signal here is whether Hall returns to full practice participation within the next 7–10 days. A quick return to full reps in late August is a strong Grade 1 signal. Any limitation carrying into the final preseason week flips this into a legitimate concern worth tracking closely.
