Reporting conflict: team timeline (~24w) is longer than OTM estimate (15-23w).

Coby Bryant is now one week post-op from surgical repair of a left knee fracture, with the Bears reporting a 4-to-6 month recovery timeline. Surgery was confirmed on August 8, 2026, one day after the injury occurred.

The fracture type and specific surgical procedure have not been publicly disclosed — and that matters for the RTP range. Knee fractures requiring surgical repair can involve very different procedures: intramedullary nailing or plating for a tibial plateau or distal femur fracture, ORIF for patella fractures, or other fixation constructs depending on the fragment pattern and location. Each carries a distinct rehabilitation arc. Until the procedure is named, the 4-to-6 month window the Bears provided spans that uncertainty reasonably — and OTM's estimate aligns with it.

The injury grade is confirmed (surgical intervention was required, consistent with significant structural disruption). The specific fracture morphology and fixation approach remain inferred from the broad "fracture, surgical repair" designation in public reporting.

At one week post-op with a 4-to-6 month recovery, Bryant is looking at a return window of roughly 15–23 weeks from today (August 15). That puts the earliest plausible return right around late November to early December — well into the regular season. A best-case trajectory could see him back around Week 12–13; a more conservative course pushes toward Week 18 or beyond.

The team's 6-month outer bound aligns with the biological floor for significant bone healing requiring fixation at the knee. Bone remodeling after fracture fixation typically runs 12–16 weeks minimum for structural integrity, with full functional recovery — including agility, cutting, and contact readiness — trailing that considerably. The 4-month lower bound is aggressive but not biologically irreconcilable if the fracture pattern was favorable and fixation was rigid.

Bryant is a DB for the Bears. The positional demand profile here is critical: defensive backs require explosive lateral movement, sprint acceleration, and the ability to absorb and deliver contact — all of which stress the repaired construct significantly. Teams are rightly conservative with knee fracture repairs at DB, and Bryant's 2026 season is effectively in jeopardy depending on where in the 4-to-6 month range his recovery lands.

MD Review

Injury occurred August 3rd and surgery August 7th strongly suggests a concurrent cartilage and or soft tissue injury in addition to the reported bone bruise/small fracture. OTM gap of -9 wks is therefore inaccurate.
