Micah Parsons is now on the Packers' reserve/PUP list following left knee ACL surgery performed December 29, 2025 — confirmed by the team. He is now approximately 35 weeks post-op, placing him inside the established 39–52 week literature window for ACL reconstruction. That means he is approaching — but has not yet reached — the biological floor for return to competitive play.

The ACL reconstruction timeline is one of the best-studied in sports medicine (T1 evidence), and the floor is firm: the literature puts functional sport RTP at 9–12 months in roughly 80% of cases, with criterion-based clearance protocols driving that range. At 35 weeks post-op, Parsons is still about 4 weeks shy of the 39-week biological floor. The reserve/PUP designation requires him to miss a minimum of the first 4 regular season games — an administrative floor that, in this case, actually aligns reasonably well with where his biology sits. Week 5 of the 2026 season would fall at approximately 39–40 weeks post-surgery, right at the opening of the literature's lower bound.

The ACL tear is confirmed, the surgery date is confirmed, and the surgical procedure — ACL reconstruction — is the expected intervention given the confirmed Grade 3 ligament disruption. What the public record does not disclose is the specific graft choice (patellar tendon, hamstring, or allograft), which introduces some variability within the 9–12 month window but does not change the floor materially. Reinjury risk is meaningfully elevated for returns before 9 months — that's approximately Week 39 from the December 29 surgery date, landing in early October 2026. A Week 5 activation would be at the very earliest edge of that window; a mid-season return in the October–November range would be more consistent with where the bulk of the literature puts safe functional return.

The trajectory here is what you'd expect for a major knee reconstruction handled conservatively. Parsons has been rehabbing since late December, and the PUP designation is the correct administrative vehicle for a player at this stage of recovery. Watch for Week 5 practice reports and any functional clearance language from the team — that will be the first real signal of whether he's tracking toward the early or late end of the 9–12 month window.
